Overview

As a Project Engineer, you'll be the central point of contact for new molding and additive manufacturing programs, responsible for managing customer expectations and project timelines. This role requires effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, including tooling, processing, and quality, to ensure timely and high-quality project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the main liaison between customers and internal teams, ensuring alignment with customer expectations and project timelines.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing process solutions tailored to customer requirements, including analyzing designs for manufacturability and working with customers to address any issues.
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams, including tooling, processing, and quality, to ensure projects are completed on schedule and meet quality standards.
  • Support Quality Assurance in conducting First Article Inspections (FAI) and managing reporting processes.
  • Oversee IQ/OQ/PQ validations for medical devices in partnership with the Quality team.
  • Design manufacturing aids such as fixtures, end-of-arm tooling, and automation systems using SolidWorks as needed.
  • Assess the moldability of customer products and tooling designs.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using lean methodologies and formal problem-solving techniques.
  • Identify and lead projects aimed at reducing costs and improving throughput in manufacturing processes.
  • Assist Operations with capacity planning and factory layout optimization.
  • Prioritize and manage tasks within the tooling, processing, and quality departments for new projects and program qualifications.
  • While injection mold design is a component of the role, it constitutes only 5-15% of your responsibilities.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven leadership and team-building skills with the ability to effectively manage cross-functional teams.
  • Strong project management capabilities, with proficiency in Microsoft Project and familiarity with Agile, SCRUM, and Kanban methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing vendor timelines and controlling project costs.
  • Proficiency in lean manufacturing techniques and tools.
  • Solid mechanical and technical expertise.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of injection molding part Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and mold design is advantageous.
  • Ability to design and execute experiments is a plus.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Preferred experience in injection molding and medical device manufacturing; certification or qualifications in injection molding are preferred.
  • Alternatively, 5 years of relevant work experience managing projects or customer interactions.
